Becoming a Shangri-La Volunteer

Becoming a Shangri-La Volunteer

Application & Background Check Process

All on-going volunteers, interns and practicum students are required to complete a Shangri-La application.

Oregon Revised Statutes require that volunteers who provide services to Shangri-La clients complete a criminal history check. We will always do our best to get you started volunteering as soon as possible, however, the criminal history check process can take up to six weeks to finish. All offers of volunteer status are contingent upon the approval of the criminal history check.

Furthermore, Shangri-La is a drug free work place. Some volunteer opportunities may require the volunteer to complete testing to determine if illegal drugs are present in the body.

Age Restrictions

Most on-going volunteer opportunities require a volunteer to be at least 16-18 years of age. Most project/event volunteer opportunities allow volunteers who are 15 years of age or older to volunteer independently; volunteers 10-14 years of age can volunteer with a parent or guardian. See individual volunteer opportunity descriptions for specific age requirements.
